John Cumming was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1830 and died in Melbourne in 1883. He was a member of the Legistalitive Council in Victoria from 1870 - 80.

This is John Cumming's grave in the St Kilda cemetery. Interned in the same plot are also his wife, Eliza; sons, Francis, John and Arthur and daughter Ida Georgina. I wonder why son Thomas, who died in 1901, was buried at Kew? Perhaps his suicide has something to do with it.
